Beschreibung: Uses of flying boats in the war, starting with a Felixstowe flying boat coming in to land at its base, probably Hamble, followed by a rare CE1 flying boat also landing. The main subject of the film is an anti-submarine patrol by the two airships NS7 and NS8. They are led out onto their take-off site and NS7 is seen taking off. The camera, on board NS8, shows the engineers checking the external engines while at 3,000 feet. A lookout spots a hostile aircraft which he shoots down with his Lewis gun. The 'enemy' goes into a steep dive and can be seen burning on the ground. The airship sends a message by signal lamp. Over the North Sea the airship spots a 'hostile' submarine (in fact a British L Class) and sends off a morse signal, which attracts a nearby British destroyer. The submarine opens fire at the airship with its deck gun. The destroyer (not clearly seen) opens fire, forcing the submarine to dive, and then depth charges it. The airships return to base, the reconnaissance still photographer of NS8 taking photographs over the side. The airships overfly Arundel (?), the town and castle being visible below. They also overfly an RAF airfield. Over their own landing site NS7 drops its cable and is brought in. The larger type of patrol airship, the R23, is seen overflying London on the occasion of the Lord Mayor's show, 9th November 1918. A view, slightly blurred, of the captain in the control gondola. A final view of airships helping to escort the surrendered German High Seas Fleet across the North Sea.
